Home Workout Tips

Even the most enthusiastic gym enthusiasts can struggle to get to the gym for their workout.

Sometimes, despite your very best efforts, getting out of the house or your place of work, just isn't feasible; or you simply cannot be bothered. Don't fret, this is completely fine. You don't need a gym to get you healthy, you can get your heart pumping in your own home, saving on travel time, and often also saving money and petrol.

So slip into your gym wear, and get your beach body ready by following the workout below.

Warm Up

Before beginning any physical activity, it is always necessary to warm up. Get your heart pumping and your muscles warm for 5 minutes before beginning this exercise plan, to prevent injury and improve performance.

Wide Squats

Take a wide stance and squat, as low as you can. Squat deep and fast, and repeat for 20 repetitions.

Lunges

Walking lunges are ideal for working both legs evenly. Complete 20 repetitions of these in total.

Press Ups

If you need to rest your knees on the floor, you are welcome to. Keep your hips tucked and allow your elbows to come out to the side as you lower, to target your shoulders.

Jumping Jacks

Get your heart rate pumping with a round of 30 jumping jacks.

Plank

Hold a plank for 30 seconds, with the option of turning this into a mountain climber if you wish. If doing mountain climbers, do 10 reps on each side.

Tricep Dips

Place your hands on a step and extend your legs straight out in front of you. Keep your elbows pulled in and lower your bottom towards the floor, then lift back up. Repeat 20 times.

Narrow Squat

Place your feet under your hips and squat, ensuring your knees are at 90 degrees at your lowest point. Do 20 repetitions.

Complete this workout, doing 3-5 rounds of the circuit. Ensure you always finish a workout with a cool down and stretch.

So whether you're a stay at home mum, world traveller, shift worker, or anything in between, finding time to get fit doesn't need to be the burden we often think it is. Being home to work out saves on childcare, saves on excuses for not getting to your class and is just as effective. In fact, a strength training circuit, such as the one above can be more effective for your body than a cardio workout. This body weight workout will help to burn fat and build muscle all over, giving you a trim, toned physique. Due to the intensity of the exercises, this won't even take much time from your day, and it can be done anywhere, to suit your lifestyle.
